The DSOA-NSW was formed by a group of Datsun Sports and Silvia owners concerned by the apparent lack of parts and information available for their vehicles. These owners also felt the desire to engage in social activities with other owners and their vehicles.

The aims of the DSOA-NSW are:

• To encourage and assist owners in the restoration and mainenance of their vehicle
• To locate and disseminate information relevant to the vehicles
• To locate and make available, parts for these vehicles
• To organise and encourage social contact between owners
• To promote these vehicles among the greater public
• To communicate with owners of Datsun Sports Roadsters and Silvias around the world

In order to carry out these aims, the club has formed an executive committee to oversee the running of the club, its events and a publication entitled Dat Chat. Members pay an annual fee of $20 to offset these running costs, the great majority of which goes to the production of Dat Chat.
