THE RaTTAToT TOUR
(Ramsay's Terrific Tag-a-long Adventure Tour of Tasmania)
For 11 November 2001
Report by André and Julia
Sunday saw a few ACTites set off on their quest from Canberra. Bev and Des, Bob and Sue were joined by Geoff
and
June who had already been travelling for 3 days from Brisbane (well done guys). An early 7am start saw them arrive
in Melbourne by 4pm to meet Norm and Liz and the Ramsay family (Jim, Anne-Marie, Megan and Rachel) who had all
made their own way there. But where were the NSWites ? Well they eventually arrived after having taken a VERY
leisurely drive (via Brown Brothers winery) of about 260km in 8 or so hours.
Melbourne welcomed us all in the traditional way with several centimetres of rain, although Andr‚ tried (as
usual)
to challenge it by not putting his roof up until he was forced to give in, The heavy rain added an extra challenge
to parking the cars in a severely under-sized hotel car park, but otherwise the accommodation was very nice. A
local pasta bar met our dinner requirements and witnessed the inter-state meetings and greetings. It was also
the place where Andr‚ received the largest serving of cheesecake any of us had ever seen.
We had not even reached Tasmania and Paul was already nicknamed Warren by Syd who no doubt was jealous that
Paul
and Diann were enjoying each others company and not partaking in the evening meal with us in Melbourne. The name
was allocated due to the association with rabbits. Paul and Diann took the joke very well and the naming changed
throughout the holiday to The Warrens or Warren and Jessica (Rabbit).
