THE RaTTAToT TOUR
(Ramsay's Terrific Tag-a-long Adventure Tour of Tasmania)
For 21November 2001
Report by Geoff and June
Left Bicheno at 9am, sky cloudy and overcast, roof up, destination
Launceston via St Helens. Sue and Bob Tandy won quiz number
two. Paul was seen leaving the motel car-park driving Syd's
FUNCAR with Syd driving Paul's car.
We took the Elephant Pass route to St Helens where we stocked
up for lunch followed by a stop at the Pyengana Cheese factory
for tasting of their chilli and herb cheeses, just to name
a few.
Then it was onto St Columba Falls, which are the highest
falls in Tasmania at 90 metres. Bev and Des didn't make it
to the falls as they had a starter motor problems, and so
they went straight to Launceston for urgent repairs.
As we left the Falls, Syd suggested an ale or two down the
road at :The Pub in the Paddock", this offer was taken
up by the Gooch's, Breit's, Honer's and Tyson's. This convoy
then had a driver change with Syd and Geoff swapping cars
for the drive to Derby. Then from Derby to Scottsdale André
drove Syd's car and Alan.A drove André's.
On the Derby stretch, Syd was confronted on a tight left-hander
by a low laden with caterpillar on board. After applying the
anchors and backing up, the truckie gave Syd and June a mouthful
leaving them both with the impression he'd already encountered
a Dato. After stopping in Derby, André denied upsetting
the truckie but Michael stepped forward to take the credit.
The convoy proceeded on to Scottsdale for afternoon tea and
a quick drive into Launceston over the mountain range and
checked into the motel around 5pm.
The Cherry's made their own way to Launceston after a detour
back to Cole Bay to walk to the lookout to see Wineglass Bay
in the Freycinet National Park.
